Fair Trade Club is a local online group that is forming in Leigh, Greater
Manchester.
My
name’s Ashley, I’m a 19 year old man and I’m hoping to form the club to meet other
people from Leigh who believe Fair Trade is as important as I do.
I’d
like to meet anyone who believes in the principles of Fair Trade:

that all workers all over
the world should receive a fair wage
·
that workers should have
decent employment conditions (e.g. reasonable working hours, the right to
strike, health and safety provisions)
·
that we should be prepared
to pay more for what we buy if paying less means the workers producing the
products are being exploited and left in poverty
·
that we should be
concerned about keeping the environment sustainable to ensure future safety of
all the people of the world

I hope to make friends with like-minded people
and to develop a local sub-culture (like ‘Goths’, ‘Chavs’, ‘Rockers’,
‘Hippies’ etc.) that says, there’s no reason why we can’t get together, enjoy
ourselves and do the right thing by
making the world fairer for everyone.
We
might organise social meet-ups, promote Fair Trade locally and do fun
activities with Fair Trade products (for example, a gathering of members for a musical
jam in a park with Fair Trade bongos).
There
are so many possibilities when people come together.
